Srinagar: Two militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Ranipora area of Anantnag on Saturday police said. 

Taking to twitter, police spokesman said #Encounter has started at Kwarigam, Ranipora area of #Anantnag. Police and forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.

In another tweet it said that 2 unidentified militants killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow.

Earlier a joint team of Police, Army’s 19 RR and CRPF launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

He said that as the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
