Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System regularly upgraded along LoC: Defence Ministry

Srinagar, Mar 10: The Defence Ministry Wednesday informed the Lok Sabha that the Indian Army has adopted a robust counter-infiltration strategy and enhanced the incorporation of different platforms to strengthen surveillance architecture besides maintaining heightened alert along the Line of Control.

The Defence Ministry stated this in a written reply to queries including the steps taken by the Indian Army to reduce Border infiltrations. whether the Indian Army has tested a Hybrid Model of Smart fence integrated with several sensors along the LoC; and if so, the details thereof?.

“Army has adopted a robust counter-infiltration strategy which has an appropriate mix of technology and human resource put together to check infiltration effectively.  Innovative troops deployment, proactive use of surveillance and monitoring devices, and the Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) has enhanced the ability to detect and intercept militants attempting to infiltrate/exfiltrate”, the Defence Ministry said in the written reply reads.

It said that based on regular analysis of threat assessment and past infiltration attempts, drill and procedures are modified to counter emerging threats.

“Some of the measures employed by Indian Army include Appraisal and up-gradation of intelligence gathering capabilities,” the reply reads, adding that “Reorientation of surveillance architecture to enmesh with counter-infiltration deployment. Augmentation of Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) incorporating surveillance assets.”

The reply reads that, “Enhanced incorporation of aerial platforms, night vision equipment, radars, underground sensors, etc. to strengthen the surveillance architecture and Maintenance of heightened alert in areas along the LoC.”

About the test of Hybrid Model of Smart fence integrated with several sensors along the LoC, the Defence Ministry said that “The Indian Army, along with Research & Development agencies, regularly upgrade the design of Anti Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS) on the fence to incorporate ‘Smart’ components.”

The upgraded design Defence Ministry said include Border Surveillance System (BOSS), Laser Fence, Short-Range Surveillance Equipment, etc.

Notably, the Defence Ministry was replying to query about the measures by the Indian Army to reduce infiltration along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
