Govt bans 43 Chinese mobile apps amid rising tensions with China

Delhi, Nov 25: The Government has  blocked access to the 43 Chinese mobile apps from accessing by users in India, under section 69A of the Information Technology Act.

“This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity, defence, security of state and public order,” the govt said in a statement..

Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued the order for blocking the access of these apps by users in India based on the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center.

Earlier on 29th June Government had blocked access to 59 mobile apps and on 2nd September, 118 more apps were banned under section 69A of the Information Technology Act

Popular shopping website AliExpress was among the banned apps, which comes a big blow to Chinese e-commerce major Alibaba, The mint reported.

This is another setback for the e-commerce giant after its Ant Group’s $37-billion (£28 billion) initial public offering, (IPO) was halted in China, it added.
