Three militants, ASI killed in Srinagar gunfight

Srinagar, August 30: Three militants and a Assistant sub inspector of J&K police were killed in an overnight encounter at Panthachowk in outskirts of Srinagar district.

A senior Police officer said  that three militants were killed in an overnight encounter, bodies have been recovered with arms and ammunition. However identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

The operation was halted due to darkness. But, as the morning broke, the operation was resumed, the officer said.

During intial exchange of firing Assistant Sub Inspector of J&K police identified as Babu Ram was also killed.

Earlier, three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, they said.

Soon after the attack, the fleeing militants were engaged in a gunfight by security forces in nearby area.(GNS)
