Srinagar: National Conference leader Ruhullah Mehdi resigned from the post of chief spokesperson on Tuesday.

This comes a day after NC vice president Omar Abdullah stated that he won’t participate in the assembly election if the statehood is not restored to J-K. “I simply cannot and will not be a member of a House that has been disempowered the way ours has,” he wrote in a column for Indian Express.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Mehdi said that he had sent his resignation across from the post, “I have sent across my resignation from the post of Chief Spokesperson of @JKNC_ From here on none of my statements should be considered as such,”

Earlier, the three-time former legislator Aga Ruhullah had said the restoration of statehood should be the last demand.

“What happened on 5 August, 2019 is beyond statehood and restoration of statehood should be the last demand,” Mehdi was quoted as saying by The New Indian Express newspaper.
