75-year-old Baramulla Man Dies Of Covid-19, J&K Toll 142

Srinagar, July 7 The death toll due to Covid-19 rose to 142 in Jammu and Kashmir as a 75-year-old man from Baramulla died at a hospital here on Tuesday.

A resident of Ladoora Baramulla, the septuagenarian passed away at SMHS hospital Srinagar, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo said.

Admitted to the hospital on July 7, the man was suffering from “bilateral pneumonia”, the officer added.

Earlier, a 60-year-old woman from the north Kashmir district died at CD hospital here, one of the exclusive facilities for the covid-19 management in the Kashmir Valley.

Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Salim Tak said that the sexagenarian, a resident of Kunzer Baramulla, was suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hypertension and diabetes besides bilateral pneumonia. “She was admitted on July 3 and died today morning,” he added.

The two deaths take the fatality count due to the virus to nine in the Valley in last 24 hours. The other victims include a 70-year-old man from Bohrikadal Srinagar, a 55-year-old woman from Uri, a 90-year-old man from Tangmarg, a 75-year-old man from Rafiabad, a 56-year-old man from Budgam and a 65-year-old man from D H Pora Kulgam besides a paramilitary BSF trooper. The septuagenarians from Bohri Kadal Srinagar and Baramulla respectively died at SMHS hospital while others except BSF trooper succumbed to the virus at SKIMS Soura and CD hospital.

With the deaths, 142 people have succumbed to the virus in J&K— 128 from the Valley and 14 from Jammu division.

Srinagar district with 34 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (28), Kulgam (17), Shopian (13), Anantnag (11), Budgam (10), Jammu(8), Kupwara (7), Pulwama (four), Bandipora (three), Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Ganderbal, Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.
