Air India caps Rs 6,715 fare of Srinagar-Delhi & Rs 6,899 of Delhi-Srinagar flights till 15 August

Air India caps fare for flights to and from Srinagar

New Delhi:  State-owned Air India on Sunday capped fares for all its flights to and from Srinagar till August 15.

The carrier has capped maximum fare at Rs 6,715 of Srinagar-Delhi flights and Rs 6,899 of Delhi-Srinagar flights, Air India spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar said here.

Earlier, Mr Kumar said, ‘In view of the prevailing circumstances, the national carrier has decided to cap the fare @9500 for all Air India flights to/from Srinagar till 15th August.’

The airline’s decision comes in the wake of the Aviation Ministry asking all airlines to put a cap on all Srinagar flights, taken by pilgrims returning from Amarnath yatra.

The airfares for Srinagar flights increased after the Jammu and Kashmir administration issued an advisory asking tourists and Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to leave the Kashmir Valley “immediately” following intelligence inputs of specific terror threats to the pilgrimmage after which tourists got panicked and reached the Srinagar airport.

Later, the Civil Aviation Ministry asked airlines to put a cap on airfares. “Hon’ble Minister for Civil Aviation Shri @HardeepSPuri has asked all the Airlines to rein in the surging Air Fares for pilgrims returning from Amarnath dham,” the Ministry tweeted.
