Srinagar: A woman was killed while another civilian, employee in the health department, suffered injuries as the armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy artillery firing along the Line of Control in Gurez area of northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The slain woman has been identified as Rahme Begum wife of Abdul Ahad, a resident of Dassi village in Bagtoor, while the injured health employee has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad son of Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Naidkhai in Bandipora district. Manzoor is posted in the health department at Gurez.

Reports said that he has been shifted to a health facility for treatment.

Officials said that Pakistani troops resorted to “unprovoked and heavy firing and shelling” from across the Line of Control.

“Indian troops guarding the LoC effectively retaliated,” they said.

Meanwhile, reports said that the cross-LoC shelling has stopped in the area and people are seen moving towards safer places.
