Srinagar: Traffic on 434-km-long Srinagar- Leh Highway, the only road linking Ladakh region with Kashmir valley, was restored on Tuesday after remaining disrupted for a day due to fresh landslides triggered by rain, a traffic police official said. 

He said traffic on the strategically important highway was resumed only on Sunday after remaining suspended for three consecutive days due to landslides and shooting stones. However, on Monday morning, the highway was closed again due to fresh landslides at several places following rain.

However, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, had put into service sophisticated machines and men and put through the traffic. 

Two-way traffic was resumed this morning with some restrictions, he said.

He said Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were allowed to ply from Minimarg towards Srinagar from 0500 hrs to 0900 hrs followed by Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) from 0900 hrs to 1300 hrs.

He said LMVs will be allowed to move towards Ladakh from Sonmarg in the central Kashmir from 1300 hrs 1500 hrs followed by HMVs 1500 hrs to 1800 hrs.
