Srinagar: Train service resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for a day due to security reasons in the Kashmir valley, where separatists had called for a general strike on the third death anniversary of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander Burhan Wani who was killed in an encounter by forces.
Trains will operate in the Kashmir valley today following an advisory received from police last night to resume train service , a railway official said.
He said therefore train will chug on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir. Similarly, train service will also operate on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region, he added. All the morning trains operated as per schedule on all routes, he added.
Burhan Wani was killed in an encounter by forces on July 8, 2016 in Kokernag area in south Kashmir district of Anantnag. However, his killing evoked massive protests across the Kashmir valley.
