Two forest officials attacked by timber smugglers in Bandipora

Srinagar: Two forest employees were tacked by sand smugglers in north Kashmir district of Bandipora on Tuesday, official sources said.

They said two forest employees, Abdul Rashid and Mohammad Hussain, who were on patrol to check illegal sand extraction along the banks of Wular Lake in Laharwalpora village, were attacked by the smugglers.

They added that both the forest employees were beaten by the smugglers. Later, one of them was taken to district hospital Bandipora for treatment.

He said that police had taken cognizance of the case and registered an FIR against eleven accused persons under section 307 RPC at Bandipora Police Station.
