Punjab resident held with 18 kg poppy in Poonch, Drug peddler held with over 6 kg Ganja in Jammu city

Jammu: A man was arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district and 18 kg of poppy was seized from him, police said on Tuesday.

Jaswant Singh was trying to smuggle the poppy to Punjab when he was caught on Monday night after his vehicle was intercepted as part of routine checking at Poshana on Mughal road, they said.

Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab was arrested and a case was registered against him, they added.

Meanwhile, a drug peddler was arrested with 6.5 kgs of ganja in Jammu city, police said Tuesday.

A police party on routine patrolling duty in Gangyal, apprehended the man who was roaming in suspicious circumstances on Monday, a police officer said.

A case was registered against Lakshman Kumar Rai at the Gangyal Police Station, the officer added.
