Zakir Musa killing: Curfew in Kashmir capital, restrictions in major towns

Srinagar: Curfew has been clamped in Srinagar while elsewhere in the Kashmir valley, restrictions were imposed in major towns and tehsil headquarters on Friday as a precautionary measure following clashes last night after the death of chief of Ansar Gazwatul Hind Zakir Musa in an encounter by forces in Pulwama.

Authorities suspended train and mobile internet service in the Kashmir valley as a precautionary measure.

The authorities also ordered closure of all educational institutions in the Valley.

Repeated announcements were being made through public address system in different parts of the summer capital, Srinagar, that curfew has been imposed. People were being directed to remain indoors. Any violation would be dealt with sternly, people were being warned.

Large number of state police personnel and security force personnel, wearing bullet-proof jackets, leg-guards and holding automatic weapons guarded deserted streets.

Similar restrictions have also been imposed in almost all major towns and tehsil headquarters in the Valley to prevent any violence.
