MP Congress leader dies of heart attack at counting centre

Bhopal: Congress district president of Sehore district in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal parliamentary constituency Ratan Singh Thakur has died of a heart attack. According to reports, he was present at one of the counting centres in the constituency when he suffered the heart attack. Ratan Singh was rushed to the district hospital but his health kept failing, and eventually, he died at the hospital.

In Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency, Sadhvi Pragya is heading towards victory, leading by almost 50,000 votes over senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh. Meanwhile, Sadhvi has exuded confidence saying that she’ll win by a huge margin.

Bhopal is considered BJP bastion as the saffron party hasn’t lost the seat since 1984. During the campaign, BJP sent its stalwarts Uma Bharti and Sumitra Mahajan to campaign in Bhopal for the terror-accused on the poll plank of Hindutva, nationalism and development while Digvijaya Singh has promised employment and development.

However, Sadhvi was part of a huge controversy in the run-up to the election campaign after she hailed Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as “patriot”. Though within hours she apologised for her comment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi categorically said that he’ll never forgive her for her remark. BJP president Amit Shah also distanced the party from her comment, seeking an explanation from her over the same.
