Shifting Advocate Zahid Ali to Kotbalwal’ grave violation of prisoner’s rights: Jamaat

Srinagar: Jama’at-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir has strongly denounced the shifting of its spokesman advocate Zahid Ali from Srinagar Central Jail to Kotbalwal Jammu and termed it a grave violation of prisoner’s rights.

In a statement issued to the press, Jama’at appealed international human rights bodies to break its silence and take effective measures for upholding the fundamental rights of prisoners.

“Authorities on Friday resorted to grave violation of prisoners rights while shifting party’s chief spokesman Advocate Zahid Ali along with several detainees from Central Jail Srinagar to Kotbalwal Jammu. This exercise clearly depicts the autocratic, dictatorial and barbaric outlook of state authorities that has plunged the state into lawlessness,” the party stated.

“This is exercise is grave violation of prisoner’s basic rights and appeals national and international rights bodies to break its deep silence and take effective measures for upholding the fundamental and due rights of prisoners who are lodged in several jails in and outside the state”.
