Srinagar: Violent mobsters on Saturday attacked the deputy commissioner’s office and burned the effigy of governor Satya Pal Malik’s effigy in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir.

Reports said a mob of more than hundred people protested against the alleged failure of the administration to nab the killers of RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma and Parihar brothers.

They said the mobsters who were raising slogans against the governor and the administration hurled stones on the mini-secretariat, smashed windowpanes and doors of the building.

An official said that the columns of the police, CRPF and ITBP were rushed to the spot who dispersed the protesters.

The protest was held amid a shutdown called by the Sanathan Dharam. Pertinently, restrictions under 144 CrPC were put in place in the area three days ago.

RSS leader Chandrakant Sharma was shot dead along with his personal security officer on April 9.

Anil Parihar, 53, and his brother Ajit were returning home when two unidentified gunmen shot them at point-blank range in Kishtwar town in November last year. The killings triggered angry protests in the communally sensitive district.
