Life comes to halt in parts of Anantnag due to strike against killing of 2 militants, internet suspended

Srinagar: Normal life was crippled due to a strike in parts of south Kashmir district of Anantnag, where two local Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in the wee hours on Thursday.

Mobile internet services have been suspended in Anantnag district as a precautionary measure to prevent spread of rumours.

Official sources said that there was no restriction in any part of Anantnag though security forces have been deployed in sensitive areas for security reasons.

Even though there was no strike called by any separatist group, shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the roads in Anantnag and Bijbehara towns against the killings.

Work in government offices and banks was also affected due to the strike in these areas, where majority of the schools were also closed as students preferred to stay indoors in view of the tense situation.

Clashes were also reported in the morning in some area in Anantnag.

Two local militants of HM were killed by security forces in an encounter which ensued during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Anantnag.
