Clashes erupt at several places in Anantnag amid polling

Anantnag: Clashes between protesters and government forces erupted at several places in Anantnag district on Tuesday where polling is underway for the first phase in three-phase parliamentary polls.

Reports said that clashes are going on in Wularhama, Zirpaara, Daharno and Nowgam Verinag village of the district.

They said that the youths pelted stones on government forces deployed for the election duty. The forces resorted to tear smoke shelling and pellet firing on the protesting youth.

Earlier reports of clashes were received from Damhal area in Kokernag, and in Brinty Dyalgam.

In the first four hours of polling over 5 per cent, voter turnout was reported from the district amid a complete shutdown on the call of Joint Resistance Leadership.
