Shah Faesal unlikely to contest upcoming Lok Sabha polls

Srinagar: Shah Faesal, who recently launched his political party, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples’ Movement is unlikely to contest the upcoming parliamentary elections, sources said on Friday, adding that the former IAS topper will rather test the waters in assembly elections.

Reliable sources privy to the developments said that Faesal is not contesting the upcoming parliamentary polls as he and the party has decided to contest the assembly elections only. The election commission of India earlier this month while announcing the dates for the parliamentary polls said that the situation was not right to hold assembly polls in the state.

The EC’s decision invoked widespread condemnations inclduing from former Jammu and Kahsmir chief minister Omar Abdullah.

Earlier, there were reports that Shah Faesal will be contesting upcoming parliamentary polls from Baramulla constituency even as Faesal had also hinted he would contest the polls.
