Jammu grenade blast accused is ‘major’, claims J&K police, seeks custody

Jammu: The age row triggered soon after Jammu Grenade blast accused, said to be juvenile, was arrested but police claimed that he is a ‘major’ and his custody will soon be sought after producing the bone density test report in the court.

According to the police sources, as per the bone density test report, the age of Yasir Javed Bhatt alias Chotu code Arhan, the prime accused of Jammu Bus Stand grenade attack, is 19 years and the medical report will be submitted in the court to seek his custody.

‘During interrogation, accused had claimed that he is attending British Convent School in Yaripora area of Kulgam and since there was no proof of age available with him, a board of doctors was constituted to ascertain his exact age,’ they said adding that the board has certified that he is a ‘major’.

Earlier, the Juvenile Justice Board had directed to send accused to Observation Home in R S Pura for a period of three days and also directed the Investigating Officer to expedite the investigation but now after the confirmation about his age, police will seek his custody for further investigation.

The grenade lobbed at the bus stand on March 7, which claimed one life and left 32 injured, was transported by the accused from Kulgam to Jammu in a tiffin box containing ‘biryani’.

A case under relevant section is already registered and investigations started, police added. (UNI)
