Hundreds protest in Kargil, demand rotational basis Divisional HQ

Kargil: Hundreds of people on Sunday protested in the border town of Kargil, demanding rotational basis headquarters, for the newly-created Ladakh division.

Protestors, including leadership of religious, political and social organisations, hit the streets at Islamia School Chowk in Kargil, alleging that setting up of Divisional headquarters of newly-created Ladakh Division at Leh was politically-motivated.

Holding placards, which read, ‘We want Justice’, ‘Set Headquarters at Leh and Kargil on rotational basis’, the protestors took out a rally towards Baroo Kargil.

‘This order has for the first time, united all the stakeholders of Kargil and this wave will not stop till the decision is revived. The Headquarter of the Division should be on rotational basis – six months of summer in Kargil and six months of winter in Leh,’ they said.

They said they will launch a Civil Disobedience Movement against SRO 110, till the time the decision is not revived.

‘We request the Governor administration to reconsider and revive the decision and modify SRO 110,’ they added.

The state government on Friday approved creation of a separate Administrative/ Revenue Division for Ladakh.

‘The division will comprise of Leh and Kargil districts with its headquarters at Leh,’ said an official handout on Friday.
