Protests amid shutdown in north Kashmir’s Sumbal against arrest of youth by Delhi police

Sumbal: A complete shutdown is being observed in Sumbal town of northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday against the arrest of a local youth by Dehli police.

Scores of people led by traders federation Sumbal took out a protest march holding placards demanding release of the local youth Hilal Ahmad.

Eyewitnesses said that all business establishments, schools and shops remain shut in the town while traffic remained off the roads.

Hilal was arrested on January 23 by a joint team of special cell of Dehli police, Sumbal police and a unit of army from his home and shifted him to Delhi.

Local reports quoting a police official said that Hilal was arrested in case FIR No. 17/2019 under section 25, 27, 54, 59 Indian arms act and 16, 18, 18-B and 20 of unlawful activities (Prevention act) at police station special cell Delhi.

“He was shifted to Delhi for further investigation into the case,” he said.
