Traffic on the roads, connecting border town of Keran and Tanghdar, besides dozens of other villages, with district headquarters Kupwara was plying normally. The traffic to these areas was resumed on Tuesday after remaining suspended for three day from Saturday, when valley received heavy to very heavy snowfall.

“Roads to Machil and Karnah remained closed for the fifth successive day on Wednesday, following heavy snowfall on Saturday,” a Police Control Room (PCR) official told reporter over phone from Kupwara.

Similarly, he said roads to dozens of other far-flung and remote areas also remained closed due to closure of many passes in north Kashmir following accumulation of snow.

He said efforts are being made to clear the snow and restore traffic on these roads. The snow clearance could be affected as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is approaching the region and could result in heavy to very heavy snowfall for three days from January 10.

The border town of Gurez, surrounded by Pakistan from three sides, besides Neeru and dozens of other villages also remained cut off from district headquarters Bandipora due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.

“About 2.5 feet of snow was accumulated on Bandipora-Gurez road following intermittent snowfall from Saturday. Efforts are being made to clear the road and allow traffic to the border town,” a Police Control Room (PCR) official told reporter over phone from Bandipora.(UNI)
