Hizb module busted, two arrested in Lakhanpur: J&K Police

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir police claimed to have busted a module of militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen and arrested two persons, identified as Aakib and Nissar Ahmed, who hail from south Kashmir’s Awantipora area.

Talking to reporters on Monday evening, Kathua Senior Superintendent of Police Shridhar Patil said they received a tip-off that a Hizb module was operating in the state for purchase and supply of arms and ammunition for the organisation.

He said the police intercepted a truck coming from Punjab towards Jammu and Kashmir near the Lakhanpur toll plaza. “During the checking, an amount of Rs 71,000 was recovered. Nissar and Aaqib (driver), both residents of Chersoo, Awantipora in Pulwama district, have been arrested,” the Kathua SSP Police said.

An FIR has been registered against the arrested persons under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Section 120-B of the Ranbir Panel Code and provisions of the Arms Act.
