Srinagar: Shutdown is being observed in Kashmir valley on Sunday to mourn the killings of seven civilians and three militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on saturday.
All shops and other business establishments are closed while public transport is off the roads in the capital city Srinagar.
Strict restrictions have been imposed in Pulwama and in other parts of the valley to prevent any protests against the killings.
Reports of the complete shutdown were also received from other districts of the valley.
Seven civilians were killed after the forces opened fire on protesters.The slain civilians were identified as , Suhail Ahmad resident of Bellow, Murtaza from Prichoo, Amir Palla from Ashminder, Liyaqat Ahmad of Parigam, Touseef Ahmad Mir of Chersoo,Shahbaz Ali, a resident of Monghama, and Abid Hussain Lone of Kareemabad.
Three militants and an army man were killed in a gunfight in Kharpora village, The slain militants were identified as Bilal Ahmad alias Hashim, a resident of Rajpora,Adnan alias Tahir Hizbi, a resident of Karimabad,, and a former army man Zahoor Ahmad who deserted the army ranks and joined militancy. In the encounter the Army man who was killed was identified as Kisan Singh.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for shutdown for three days upto Monday against the killing of seven civilians and three Militants in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. The leadership also announced that they will march towards Badami Bagh Army headquarters in Srinagar on Monday.
