Police solve hit-and-run case, driver held

Srinagar: Police on Monday said that it has solved a hit and run case by arresting an accused in Srinagar city.

“On 26th of November 2018, an unknown vehicle mowed down a pedestrian identified as Abdul Hameed Lone son of Late Abdul Ahad Lone resident of Shah-i-Hamdan Colony Ahmadnagar, Srinagar at 90 feet road. He was shifted to SKIMS Soura Hospital where he was declared brought dead,” a police spokesman said in a statement.

A case under relevant sections of law was registered and an investigation was initiated, he said.

During the course of investigating, eyewitnesses confirmed the vehicle as white colored 207 Tata mobile. During the further course of the investigation, Police Station Soura also scanned the CCTV footages retrieved from the private sources nearby the site of the incident, he said.

“After in-depth investigation, police was successful in locating the driver. The accused has been identified as Mehraj-ud-din Shalbaf son of Ali Mohammed resident of Umerhair Buchpora and vehicle registered as JK01M 2575”.

Srinagar Police has taken the accused into custody for further investigation, he added.
