Militants escape from Shopian gunfight site, clashes going on

Srinagar: Government forces have withdrawn from the gunfight site in Shopian village in southern Kashmir amid intense stone pelting clashes in the area.

Reports said that the firing has stopped for the last two to three hours.

The gunfight ensued in the wee hours today after government forces laid a siege to Sangdan village near Imam Sahib area of the district.

Reports said that the militants managed to escape from the gunfight site as intense clashes between government forces and civilian protesters started soon as the gunfight began. “The firefight continued for some time and has stopped for last few hours,” they said.

They said that the government forces have withdrawn from the spot while clashes were going on when this report was being filed.

Initial reports suggest that several people have suffered injuries in the clashes. However, there was official confirmation yet.
