Srinagar: Hundreds of vehicles, including trucks loaded with essential and oil tankers, left different parts of Jammu region for Kashmir valley on Saturday as only one-way traffic will continue to ply on the highway till further orders.

Ladakh-bound vehicles stranded at Sonamarg in the central Kashmir district of Ganderbal, were allowed to leave to cross over to other side of the Zojila, where snow has accumulated and road remained slippery during morning and evening due to below freezing temperature.

Only one-way traffic is allowed on the historic 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region.

Keeping in view the weather and road conditions due to frequent landslides and shooting stones, only one-way traffic would continue to ply on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only road linking the Kashmir valley with the rest of the country, a traffic police official told UNI this morning.

Today traffic will ply from Jammu to Srinagar, he said, adding that no vehicle, including security force convoy, would be allowed from opposite direction.
