North Kashmir: Sopore town shuts against local militant’s killing

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday against the killing of a local militant in a gunfight with government forces in Chattergam area of central Kashmir’s Budgam, district.

Identified as Mehraj-ud-Din Khan, the slain was killed along with top LeT commander Naveed Jatt Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said that all shops and business establishments are shut in the town while public transport is mostly off the roads.

Government late Thursday evening ordered the closure of educational institutions in the town fearing protests.
