Srinagar: Intense clashes erupted between government forces and civilians in southern Kashmir’s Kulgam on Tuesday morning.

The clashes erupted following the killing of two militants in a fierce gunfight with government forces in Redwani Bala area of the district.

Reports said that as the news about the militant killings spread, the civilians took to streets and pelted government forces with stones and rocks who retaliated using pellets and tear smoke shells.

The reports of clashes were received from Redwani Bala where the encounter took place, its adjoining areas and Kulgam town.

Meanwhile, the authorities have routinely suspended the mobile internet services in the district.
