Shopian gunfight: Civilian killed, 11 others injured in clashes with government forces

Shopian: A civilian was killed while eleven other including a minor girl were injured in clashes with government forces soon after the encounter was over at in Batagund area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Sunday.

Witnesses identified the slain civilian as  Noman from Balsoo village of Yaripora belt in kulgam district.

Bhat (17) was referred to SKIMS Soura, however, he died on the way.

The clashes followed after six militants were killed with the army and police during a gunfight. One army man was killed during the incident.

The health authoirties said that they received two youth who had sustained fire arm injuries.

They identified one of the injured youth as Faizan Ahmad, who has sustained firearm injury in head.

They said he was shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

A senior health official at district hospital Kulgam said that they received a 25-year-old youth with firearm injury and a five girl with pellet injury.

“Both of them were given immediate treatment at the hospital and shifted to Srinagar hospital for specialized treatment,” he said.

Seven civilians among them six having sustained pellet injuries were received at Public Health Centre at Vehil.
