Belgian photographer’s Kashmir work put on display in France

Srinagar: The work of world-renowned Belgian photographer Cédric Gerbehaye titled “Life under Indian military occupation of Kashmir” was recently put on display at the European Parliament, with images reflecting tragic stories of people of Jammu and Kashmir, Geo News reported.

The exhibition was a joint effort of British member of European Parliament Wajid Khan and Chairman of Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed.

Holding the exhibition in France and in the European Parliament’s official seat Strasbourg was itself a remarkable achievement for organisers. Strasbourg has symbolic value for war and peace. The plenary parliamentary seat was created here for conflict resolution in Europe.

A number of European parliamentarians, including chairman of sub-committee of human rights Antonio Panzeri, visited the exhibition. Prominent members of European Parliament from foreign relations and trade committees, including Dr Sajad Karim, Theresa Griffin, Richard Corbet, ANA Gomes, Marina Arena, John Howarth, Arndt Kohn, Jean Lambert, Nosheena Mubarak, Java Lopez, Elena Vlenciano, Alex Mayer and Elmar Broek also visited, the Geo report said.

Speaking to Geo News, British MEP Alex Mayer said, “Sometimes the photo speaks what can’t be described in words. The exhibition is true and powerful reflection of situation in Indian-occupied Kashmir. It shows what really a pellet gun means.”

German member of European Parliament Arndt Kohn said, “Human rights will always be our priority and we will never forget brutality and repression in occupied Kashmir.”
