NIA to assist J&K police in probing Kishtwar killings

Jammu: A team of National Investigation Agency will be assisting Jammu and Kashmir Police to crack killings of BJP leader and state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother, sources here said on Sunday.

The NIA team, comprising SP and DySP rank officers, besides subordinate staff, on Saturday afternoon reached Kishtwar to probe the killings.

They said that the team with J&K Police officers on Saturday visited the spot and collected some evidence.

They also met the senior police officers and also held meetings with them, said police sources.

A Special Investigating Team, constituted by J&K Police headed by IGP Jammu Zone Dr S D Singh and NIA members, will be jointly investigating the matter.

BJP state secretary Anil Parihar and his brother Ajit Parihar were killed from point blank range on November 1 with a pistol in Tapal Mohalla area by some unidentified gunmen.

“The NIA team has started the investigations and will stay in the region for couple of days,” sources added.

Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed in the district, which was imposed soon after the killings while mobile internet service was also restored after nearly 10 days.

Former minister and BJP MLA from Kishtwar Sunil Sharma had also demanded probe by the NIA. (UNI)
