Srinagar: Clashes erupted between government forces and youths in Shopian village on Saturday after a joint team of forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

Sources said that scores of youth hit streets and pelted government forces with stones who lobbed tear smoke shells and pellet fires to disperse them.

As reported earlier, the forces launched a massive cordon and search operation in Dreed-Kalipora village of southern Kashmir’s Shopian district on Saturday following inputs about presence of militants there.

“A joint team of forces including 34 Rashtriya Rifles and Jammu and Kashmir police were conducting the searches in the village.”
