Kashmir shuts on JRL call to observe Oct 27 as ‘black day’

Srinagar: A complete shutdown is being observed across Kashmir valley on Saturday to mark it as “black day” against the landing of Indian army in Jammu and Kashmir.

It was on this day in 1947 the first boots of Indian army landed in Kashmir.

The Joint Resistance Leadership has called for a general strike to observe the day as “Black Day”.

Government forces patrolled streets in Kashmir’s main city of Srinagar and enforced a security lockdown in the downtown neighborhoods in anticipation of protests. Businesses, schools and shops remained shut and public transport stayed off the roads.

Similar reports of shutdown were received from other district headquarters of the valley.
