CISF officer killed as militants attack forces camp in Srinagar outskirts

Srinagar: A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer was martyred in a militant attack on the outskirts of Srinagar on Saturday, official sources said.

They said a group of militants hurled a hand grenade followed by heavy firing towards a power Grid Station at Wagoora, Nowgam, in the city outskirts at 0300 hrs.

The CISF personnel guarding the station immediately retaliated and repulsed the attack, they said, adding that the militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

They said an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Rajendra Prasad was critically wounded when he was hit by a bullet and was rushed to the hospital, where he was declared brought dead.

Two militants were killed by the Security Forces in Nowgam area on October 24, during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO).
