Two militants killed in Kreeri gunfight in northern Kashmir

Srinagar:  Two militants were killed in an encounter that raged between forces and militants in Authoora village of Kreeri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday, police said.

Police said that a joint search operation was launched by police and security forces earlier today based on a credible input about the presence of militants at Authoora village.

“As the search operation was going on, Police while making all efforts to motivate the hiding militants to surrender provided them with several opportunities to come out, however they refused and instead fired from inside on the search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter,” police said.

“In the ensuing encounter, two militants were neutralized,” police spokesman said, adding that the identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.

He said that incriminating materials including arms and ammunitions were recovered from the site of encounter. Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation has been initiated, he said.

Meanwhile, police appealed citizens not to venture inside the site of encounter since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. “People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosive materials if any,” police spokesman said.
