Baramulla encounter: SFs burst teargas shells to disperse demonstrators

Baramulla: Government forces burst teargas shells and resorted to lathicharge to disperse demonstrators who were trying to disrupt Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Kreeri, Pattan, in this north Kashmir district on Thursday, official sources said.

They said people hit the streets at several places in Kreeri Pattan in Baramulla when encounter ensued between militants, holed up in a house, and security forces at village Atoora this morning. However, when security forces swung into action and prevented people from entering the encounter site, the demonstrators pelted stones and bricks.

Forces resorted to lathicharge which had no impact on demonstrators who continued stone pelting from a distance, they said, adding that later, security forces burst teargas shells to chase them away.

Clashes were going on when the reports last came in, they said, adding that additional security forces have been rushed there.

The authorities have already suspended internet service while train also remained off tracks for the past four days for security reasons. (UNI)
