Google boycotts Saudi conference over Khashoggi

Srinagar: After Uber, Viacom and Ford, Internet giant Google also on Monday boycotted the forthcoming business conference in Saudi Arabia in view of recent developments over disappearance of prominent Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Turkey.

“Google Cloud Chief Executive Diane Greene would not attend the Future Investment Initiative Summit to be held in Riyadh “, euronews reported quoting a statement issued by Google.

Khashoggi, a US resident, Washington Post columnist and leading critic of Saudi crown prince Mohammed bin Salman had vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on Oct. 2 to get marriage documents.

The three-day conference, known as “Davos in the Desert” was scheduled on Oct 23.
