Harassment of Kashmiri students at AMU has backing of communal forces: Communist lawmaker Tarigami

Srinagar: Communist lawmaker from southern Kashmir’s Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Monday said that harassment of Kashmiri students at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and in different colleges and educational institutions in Punjab is part of a hate campaign unleashed on Kashmiri students has the patronage of communal forces in the country.

“The already prevailing uncertain situation in Kashmir gets compounded by such incidents. AMU incident is not an isolated one against Kashmiris as in the past, similar incidents have happened in the various state of the country. It is actually a hate campaign which has been unleashed on Kashmiris outside the state and it has the patronage of the ruling party in the country,” Tarigami said in a statement.

He said that thousands of Kashmiri students are studying in outside state education institutions and this atmosphere of hatred against them has the potential to ruin their career. “Students need to be provided with a peaceful and secure atmosphere both in and outside educational institutions.”

“J&K Governor Shri Satya Pal Malik must take up the issue with the concerned governments at the earliest and ensure a safe and secure environment for Kashmiri students, businessmen, labourers and others working in various states of the country. Action must be taken against those found involved in intimidating innocent students from J&K.”
