Srinagar:  Train service resumed on Sunday after remaining suspended for two days for security reasons in south Kashmir.

A militant was killed and another injured in an encounter in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday.

A fresh advisory was received last night from police to resume train service in the valley today and railway authorities are acting on the advice of state administration, a senior railway official told UNI.

Therefore, he said, trains will chug of Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

‘We cannot take decision to resume or suspend train service since local administration is acting keeping in view the safety and security of passengers besides railway officials and property as in the past railway suffered huge losses during strikes and protests,’ he added.

Train service was resumed yesterday in north Kashmir after remaining suspended on Friday, when separatists had called for a general strike against the killing of two Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militants in an encounter with security forces in Kupwara on Thursday.

Majority of people shuttling between Baramulla, Srinagar and Qazigund or Banihal prefer train service which is very cheap, safe and fast against other modes of transport available in the valley.
