Mian Qayoom sweeps J&K High Court Bar Association elections

Srinagar: The election commission of Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar association on Thursday declared the results of the recently concluded elections of the Bar.

A spokesperson of the Bar said that the 19 time president of the Bar association Mian Abdul Qayoom won the elections for the coveted post 20th time, unopposed.

He said that the elections for the other posts were held today and the voting process continued till evening.

Later in the day, the election commission declared the results and Aijaz Bedar won the Vice-President’s post with 539 votes.

Besides Muhammad Ashraf Bhat secured 446 votes and thus was elected the Secretary General of the Bar.

While Bedar defeated Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Bhat defeated GN Shaheen.

Similarly, Adil Asimi defeated Bilal Ahmad Bhat and Aijaz Ahmad Dhar, and secured 336 votes, while Bilal Ahmad Wani secured 348 votes and defeated Sameer Ahmad Wani and Surat Shakeel.

Asimi will hold the charge of Joint Secretary and Bilal will hold the charge of treasurer.

This was for the 20th time that Mian Abdul Qayoom was elected the President of the Bar association. Earlier, no other candidate filed papers for the coveted post of president other than Qayoom.
