SPO who fled with AK-47 among 2 militants killed in Panzan gunfight in central Kashmir

Srinagar: The slain militants killed in a gunfight with government forces have been identified as Irfan Ahmad Dar and Shiraz Ahmad, both locals.

Irfan hails from Nihama village of Pulwama district while Shiraz hails from Chadoora village of Budgam district. Both were associated with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen.

Irfan was a former SPO who fled with an AK-47 from Police Station Pampore earlier this year on June 26, 2018.

Soon after Dar fled, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen claimed that he joined the outfit.

The duo was killed in Jamia Masjid Panzan after government forces cordoned off the village after inputs about the presence of militants.

Sources said that during the CASO, the militants opened fire on the forces triggering a gunfight. After several hours, the duo was killed and their bodies were recovered.

Meanwhile, intense clashes have erupted in Panzan village and adjoining areas after the killing of the two militants.

Over a dozen civilians have suffered injuries during the clashes, eyewitnesses said.
