Civilian killing: Pro-freedom protests rock Islamic University Awantipora

Srinagar: The Students of Islamic University of Science and Technology on Thursday held a massive protest demonstration in the varsity campus against the killing of a civilian by government forces in Noorbagh area of Srinagar city.

Eyewitnesses said that the students of various department boycotted classes and assemble in the main lawn of the university. They later marched in the campus amid massive pro-freedom and anti-India sloganeering.

They said that the students also denounced the killing of civilians by government forces and setting the houses of militants on fire.

A civilian identified as Muhammad Saleem Malik was killed by government forces during a cordon and search operation in Noorbagh area of Srinagar city.

The slain civilian was laid to rest at martyrs graveyard amid massive anti-India and pro-freedom sloganeering. reports said that thousands of people participated in the funeral praters of the slain civilian.
