Srinagar: The government on Tuesday said that it will make a substantial hike in the salaries of the SPOs in coming days.

This was announced by chief secretary to the J&K government VR Subramaniyam while addressing a presser in Srinagar.

Asked about the resignations in the backdrop of killings by militants, he said that resignations compared to the total number of SPOs who are above 30000 is “negligible”.

More than a dozen SPO’s had resigned over social networking sites after three of them were abducted and killed by militants in southern Kashmir’s Shopian last week.

The Home Ministry of India and Jammu and Kashmir Police denied the resignations.
