Restrictions in Srinagar parts; Schools, Colleges shut

Srinagar: Government on Wednesday imposed restrictions in several parts of the Srinagar city to prevent Muharram processions.

A Srinagar District Administration official said that the restrictions have been imposed in areas falling under the jurisdiction of Shaheed Gunj, Batamaloo, Shergari, Kothibagh, Ram Munshi Bagh, Maisuma, and Kral Khud police stations.

The restrictions, he said, have been imposed as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, the government forces have erected razor wires across roads at several places to prevent public movement
Policemen and CRPF deployments have been made at all the major intersections

The ban on Muharram processions in Kashmir stands in vogue since 1989, when armed struggle started in the valley.

Meanwhile, all the colleges and schools in Srinagar city are shut after the district administration late last night issued the orders.

An official of the district administration said the authorities have decided to close schools and colleges in the district as a “precautionary measure”.
