Home minister says smart fence will make India borders secure

Rajnath dedicates smart fence pilot project to soldiers martyred guarding borders

Jammu:  Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday on the occasion of birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, dedicated smart fence pilot project to the soldiers who have “sacrificed their lives while guarding borders”.

“Today is birthday of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and on this occasion, I dedicate this ‘smart fence’ pilot project to the jawans who attained martyrdom for the nation while guarding borders,” Mr Singh here told reporters after launching “Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System” (CIBMS).

He said that launch of CIBMS has become a historic occasion, adding, “our borders must remain secure. Though our jawans are maintaining vigil and standing tall day-night along borders but to make it more strengthened, we launched CIBMS.”

The Union Minister said that after launching CIBMS, the Indian boundaries will become more secure and added, “earlier our jawans used to remain physically present on borders in all odd weather conditions and they also feel stressed but this technology will not only de-stress them by cutting down their duty hours on borders but will also make our boundaries more fool proof.”

Mr Singh also disclosed that he came to know about CIBMS during his visit to Israel.

“Indo-Pak is a sensitive border and sometimes casualties of our jawans are also reported in cross border firing but our jawans always gave befitting reply to them,” he said adding that once the project will be successful, it will cover around 2026 kilometres of area identified as vulnerable and the pilot project will also be further enhanced and improved.

“To make borders fool proof is our mission and today two projects have been launched here while in November also, the same will be launched in Assam,” he maintained.

‘Smart Fence’ pilot project is India’s first, which entails deploying laser-activated fences and technology-enabled barriers to plug vulnerable gaps along frontiers.

“Smart fencing uses a number of devices for surveillance, communication and data storage.

“Sensors like thermal imager, underground sensors, fiber optical sensors, radar and sonar will be mounted on different platforms like aerostat, tower and poles as part of the smart fence and the new system provides for round-the-clock surveillance on the border and in different weather conditions be it dust storm, fog or rain.

The ‘laser fence’ and other gadgets have been integrated and a CCTV-like feed will be given to a BSF post so that immediate action can be taken against any intrusion or infiltration attempt, the official said.
