Train service remains suspended for second consecutive day

Srinagar: Train service remained suspended for the second consecutive day because of security reasons in south Kashmir, where a Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) militant was killed after a brief encounter in Anantnag district on Saturday.

However, trains were running normally as per schedule in north Kashmir, a railway official said.

He further added that a fresh advisory was received to suspend train service in south Kashmir for security reasons. There was apprehension of trouble as the LeT militant killed was a resident of Yaripora, Kulgam. Therefore, no train will chug for the second day today on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is being considered cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport service.
