J&K Police appeals for donation to raise Rs three cr funds for families of slain cops

Srinagar:  Jammu and Kashmir police has issued an appeal for donation to raise Rs three crore for rehabilitation of families of martyrs who made supreme sacrifice during different anti militancy operations in the state.

A police spokesman said that Jammu and Kashmir police wants to raise funds for rehabilitation of families of martyrs and your donation has the power to help them.


Director General of Police (DGP) Dr S P Vaid taking to micro blogging site twitter on Monday said that “Our 499 SPOs laid down their lives fighting militancy. My heartfelt appeal to the people of this country to come forward & help rehabilitate their families. Let’s stand up for those who gave their lives for our safety”.

Spokesman said police has a plan to raise Rs 3 crore funds for financial assistance for treatment of Special Police Officers (SPOs) and their dependents suffering from life terminal diseases or injuries during the operations.

He said that the funds are being operated by an Apex Committee of J&K Police known as “Central Police Welfare Fund Committee” (CPWFC) with Director General of Police as Chairman.

He said that there is a plan to rehabilitate the families of 499 Special Police Officers (SPOs) martyrs.

The funds are for providing education to the wards of these martyrs Imparting coaching for professional courses and competative examination of the deserving wards of martyres SPOs. Also to provide succor to the families of martyred SPOs mostly belonging to un-privileged section of the society and to provide timely financial support to the SPOs injured in operations and for their treatment in case of chronic or life terminal disease including their dependents.

Presently about 31000 SPOs engaged are rendering their services shoulder-to-shoulder with regular force in combating terrorism and to maintain law & order in the state.

The SPOs are engaged on the consolidated monthly honorarium of Rs 6,000 pm per head. The SPOs are engaged for utilizing their services in operations against the militants.Their services are also utilized for maintaining for some policing jobs as well as law and order.

In the line of duty as many as 497 SPOs have sacrified their lives for the nation, police said

He said prior to year 2010 each family of the martyr SPOs were being paid exgratia relief of Rs 2 lakh only which is now Rs 17.50 lakh. They are being paid Special relief of Rs 2.50 lakh, Ex-gratia Relief Rs 5 lakhs, Janta Insurance Rs ten lakhs. 


He said the funds will help us to augument health and educational assistance provisions for the families and wards of the martyred and serving SPO
