Srinagar: Three militants were killed in a gunfight at Wani Mohalla in Khudwani area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district early Sunday, police said.

Director General of Police (DGP) S P Vaid said that three bodies of the militants were recovered from the gunfight site. The identity of the slain militants was not immediately known.

An army spokesman in Srinagar also confirmed the killing of three militants.

In a tweet, Vaid said the militants were responsible for the killing of a police constable Mohd Saleem of Kulgam whose body was recovered yesterday from Kulgam.

Saleem was abducted by the militants from his home in Kulgam district on Friday night.

Following the killing of the militants, locals took to streets and pelted stones on forces. The forces used tear smoke shells and pellets to disperse them. However, when reports last came in the protests amid clashes were going on.

Meanwhile, internet services were suspended in Kulgam and its adjoining parts. Railway authorities also suspended train services to and from South Kashmir. (GNS)
